The Health Conscience App
For this group project we were given the task of designing an application that would help people live a more healthy lifestyle. The application we designed would generate meal plans based off the groceries a user purchased, allow them to compare their health metrics to other users, and reward them for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. My role in the group was to conduct interviews with experts such as psychologists and nutritionists in order to learn more about our potential customer base. I also conducted the user testing of the prototyped design, using task analysis and surveys to learn how to streamline and make the application easy to use.
The project showed that learning about potential customers can be helpful to the design process in ensuring that the final product meets the customers needs and expectations.
This is an example of one of the task analyses performed during the development of the application. For task analysis we would give subjects a list of tasks to complete. As they completed each task they were asked to record what they expected to happen, what actually happened, what changes they would recommend, and the severity of any problems they encountered. We used this feedback to change the design to make the application more user friendly.
